UmeGo ("we", "our", "us") operates the UmeGo mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, protect, and manage your personal information when you use our App. By using UmeGo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

      Summary: We collect only what's needed to run the app. We don't sell your data. We don't track you across other apps. You can delete your account and all data at any time.
    

1. Information We Collect

2. How We Use Your Information

Provide the service: Enable posting, messaging, calls, spaces, stories, and matrimony features
Personalize content: Rank your feed based on your interactions and interests (see Section 3)
Safety & moderation: Detect and prevent abuse, harassment, explicit content, and policy violations (see Section 7)
Communication: Send service-related notifications (not marketing)
Improve the app: Analyze anonymized usage patterns to fix bugs and improve features

We do not use your data for:

Targeted advertising
Selling to third parties
Cross-app tracking
Profiling for non-app purposes

3. Content Personalization & Algorithm

UmeGo uses an on-platform content ranking algorithm to personalize your feed. The algorithm considers:

Your relationship with the content creator (friend, following, etc.)
Your past interactions (likes, comments, shares)
Content recency and engagement levels
Content type preferences

You can influence the algorithm using "Show More" and "Show Less" options on any post. You can also use "Not Interested" to reduce specific content types. This data is stored only within UmeGo and is not shared externally.

4. Location Data

UmeGo collects location data only when you actively use the "People Nearby" feature. Location is:

Collected only while the feature is open (foreground only)
Never collected in the background
Stored for a maximum of 24 hours, then auto-deleted
Controllable via "Ghost Mode" (makes you invisible on the map)
Never sold or shared with third parties

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.

5. Data Storage & Security

5.1 Where Your Data Is Stored

Database: Supabase (PostgreSQL) with row-level security — users can only access their own private data
Media files: Cloudflare R2 with global CDN distribution
Authentication: Supabase Auth with bcrypt password hashing

5.2 Security Measures

All data encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL)
Row-level security policies on all database tables (85+ policies)
Voice and video calls encrypted via WebRTC DTLS-SRTP
API keys and secrets stored server-side only (never in the app binary)
JWT-based authentication with automatic token refresh
Media uploads proxied through authenticated Edge Functions

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

6.1 Other Users (by your choice)

Content you post publicly (posts, stories, profile information) is visible to other users. Private messages are only visible to conversation participants.

6.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of UmeGo or its users. This includes cooperation with law enforcement in cases involving illegal content (see Section 7).

7. Content Moderation & Community Safety

Zero Tolerance Policy: UmeGo has zero tolerance for explicit, nude, or sexually exploitative content. Sharing such content results in immediate permanent account ban. Violations involving minors are reported to law enforcement.

7.1 Automated Moderation

UmeGo uses automated systems to detect and prevent prohibited content:

Image scanning: All uploaded images are scanned using AI-based content classification (Cloudflare Workers AI) before being stored. Explicit or nude content is blocked automatically.
Text filtering: Messages and posts are scanned for prohibited language including hate speech, explicit content solicitation, threats, and illegal activity.
Real-time detection: Content is checked before it is published or sent — prohibited content never reaches other users.

7.2 Strike System

7.3 User Reporting

Users can report any post, message, or user profile. Reports are logged and may trigger automated review. Users can also block other users, which prevents all interaction.

7.4 Moderation Data

Moderation actions (strikes, bans, reports) are logged with timestamps for safety and legal compliance. This data is retained indefinitely for banned accounts to prevent re-registration.

8. Matrimony (Nikah) Feature

The Nikah feature is available only to users aged 18 and older. It collects sensitive personal information that you voluntarily provide:

Religious practice, prayer habits, Quran recitation
Family background, guardian information
Physical attributes, education, profession
Partner preferences

This data is:

Only visible to other verified Nikah users
Never shared with third parties or used for advertising
Deletable at any time by disabling the Nikah feature
Subject to the same moderation policies as all other content

9. Your Rights

9.1 All Users

Access: View all data associated with your account in your profile
Correction: Update your information at any time via Edit Profile
Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data (Profile > Settings > Delete Account)
Portability: Request an export of your data by contacting [email protected]
Withdraw consent: Revoke permissions (camera, microphone, location) in device settings

9.2 European Union Residents (GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have additional rights including the right to restrict processing, object to processing, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing is consent (account creation) and legitimate interest (safety and moderation).

9.3 California Residents (CCPA)

Under CCPA, you have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of data sales. We do not sell personal information. We do not discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights.

9.4 Bangladesh Residents

UmeGo complies with the Bangladesh ICT Act 2006 and Digital Security Act 2018. Users must not share content that violates Bangladeshi law.

10. Age Requirements

You must be at least 16 years old to use UmeGo
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Nikah (matrimony) feature
We do not knowingly collect information from users under 16
If we discover an underage user, their account will be immediately deleted
Parents or guardians who believe a minor has created an account should contact us immediately

When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for service improvement.

12. Cookies & Tracking

The UmeGo mobile app does not use cookies. We do not use any third-party tracking SDKs, advertising frameworks, or analytics tools that track users across apps. We do not participate in any advertising networks.

13. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your residence, including the United States (Supabase, Cloudflare infrastructure). These transfers are protected by the service providers' data protection agreements and comply with applicable data transfer regulations.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the app. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of UmeGo after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
